The Community Center of Southern Tuscarawas in Port Washington hosts a soup social every Tuesday from 5PM to 7PM. This event is free to the community and everyone is welcome. The Tuscarawas County Art Guild is accepting applications for their 22nd annual $1000 scholarship. Applicants must be a graduating senior and be in a Tuscarawas County area school district. The applicant must be in pursuit of a major in: photography, graphics, art education, and fine arts of any media. Each completed application must also include three digital photos of the student's original artwork, two reference letters (one from a teacher in their field of study), and a photograph of the student for publicity purposes. The Tuscarawas County Health Department and the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District will host a household hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, May 9th from 9AM to 1PM at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds in Dover. Accepted items include automotive fluids & car care products, cleaning supplies & other household chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, diesel, kerosene, & gasoline, and oil-based paint. Tickets for the Downtown Dover Chocolate Walk, to be held on Saturday, June 13th from 5PM to 7:30PM, are on sale at The Emporium on West Third Street and the Dover Public Library. Tickets are $20 each with proceeds benefiting the Canal Town Book Festival. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.doverlibrary.org. Ticket holders will be given a passport, map and a bag and will receive a chocolate treat at 25 different downtown Sweet Stops. The Downtown Dover Chocolate Walk is a fun and family-friendly event that celebrates Dover's merchants and community organizations.

The Tuscarawas County Public Library will host “How to Spot Fake News: Fact Checking 101” on Wednesday, April 15th at 6:30PM at the main library. Attendees will learn ways to identify fake news, as well as simple tools and websites that can be used to determine whether the news you're reading and seeing on social media is real or fake before you share it. TuscParks invites the public to the Brandywine Center Open House on Thursday, April 16th from 12PM to 6PM. The newly remodeled Brandywine Center is the new TuscParks office location and a community room for the public to use. Attendees can see the new space, meet the park staff, and local photographer Noah Strickler, who has donated his work to TuscParks to be displayed on the sound panels around the community room. Stop by and learn more about the TuscParks, their upcoming events, the Norma Johnson Center, and the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath trail. The Dover Public Library will hold the next installment of their Lunch and Learn series on Thursday, April 16th at 12:15PM at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. Ed Erb, owner of Erb’s Coleman Museum in Sugarcreek, will speak about his journey from selling and repairing appliances to collecting 7,000 Coleman items. The Bolivar-Zoar Rotary will host a shred and electronic recycling event on Saturday, April 18th from 9AM to 11AM at Ohio Billing in Bolivar. Safe, secure document shredding services will be provided by Sanmandy Enterprises. Cost is $5 per box. There is no limit on the number of boxes per person. The Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office will also be onsite to collect your expired and unneeded medications. And, back by popular demand, eCycle Solutions of Ohio will be on hand to provide electronic, e-waste recycling services. Most are at no charge, with the exception of fluorescent lightbulbs, CFLs, dehumidifiers, CRT monitors, dorm and wine refrigerators, window air conditioning units, and flat-screen TVs. Join the Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County as they celebrate the opening of Jack’s House of Hope with a public open house and ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 23rd from 3:30PM to 6:30PM. The event will take place at 214 Ashwood Lane NE in New Philadelphia, just behind the current shelter. Celebrate Earth Day with The Wilderness Center’s annual Run Wild and Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 25th. The early-morning trail run/walk invites participants of all ages to experience the beauty of nature while supporting conservation and nature education in our community. Participants can choose from a timed 10K or 5K trail run/walk, or bring the whole family out for the one-mile fun run/walk. Mustard Seed Miracles will host their first-ever golf outing on Saturday, April 25th at Oak Shadows Golf Club in New Philadelphia. Registration will be from 8AM to 8:45AM with a 9AM shotgun start. The day will also include a 50/50 drawing, basket raffle, prizes, and a meal immediately after the outing. Cost is $400 per team. The Port Washington Farmers Market will host a plant sale and breakfast on Saturday, May 9th from 9AM to 1PM. The event will be held at The Community Center of Southern Tuscarawas on West Main Street. Breakfast will be served, starting at 9AM, and includes pancakes, sausage, and biscuits & gravy. The plant sale will be from 10AM to 1PM and will feature hanging baskets, potted flowers, vegetable plants, and herbs. This event will be held rain or shine. The Sacred Heart Garden Club plant sale will be held on Saturday, May 8th from 9AM to 1PM and Sunday, May 9th from 9AM to 12PM. The sale will take place at the Sacred Heart Parish Center in New Philadelphia. The sale will feature annuals, perennials, seeds, shrubs, berries, and more. All potted plants are $5.00. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and basket raffles.

The Deersville Community Volunteer Fire Department will host their annual Fireman’s Fair on Saturday, May 23rd. The day will include a parade at 3PM, with lineup starting at 2PM.
